Births, Marriages and Deaths are marked by special liturgies in the Catholic Church. Please speak to one of the priests in order to make a start with planning these liturgies.
‘Baptism is the way out of the kingdom of death into life, the gateway to the church, and the beginning of a lasting communion with God’.
CCC, 1213-1216, 1276-1278
Baptisms at Holy Rood are mostly celebrated during specially scheduled weekend services. Whilst it is appropriate for baptisms to be celebrated within regular Sunday mass, our current congregation / church size makes this impractical at this point in time. We are currently running a 3 session Baptism Preparation programme to which parents, godparents and grandparents are all welcome. Bring your child and any of their older siblings along too – and they will be looked after by our helpers.
‘God disposed man and woman for each other so that they might be no longer two but one’ (Mt 19:6). ‘In this way they are to live in love, be fruitful, and thus become a sign of God himself, who is nothing but overflowing love’. (CC, 1601-1605)
Weddings are usually held at the weekends at Holy Rood. The 11 o’clock choir and organist are available to lead the singing and can be contacted via the parish administrator.
Marriage preparation – can be undertaken via the preparation days or FOCUS sessions run by the local Marriage Care team. http://www.marriagecare.org.uk/. Speak to the parish priest in the first instance and he will guide signpost you with regard to what is needed.
‘A Christian funeral is a service performed by the Christian community for the benefit of its dead. It expresses the sorrow of the survivors, yet it always has a Paschal character. Ultimately, we die in Christ so as to celebrate with him the feast of the Resurrection.’ (CCC, 1686-1690)
Please speak to the parish priest or office administrator who will be able to support and sign post you in making funeral arrangements. Should you wish to make a statement regarding wishes for your own funeral, ‘Instructions for my Funeral Mass’ forms are available from the church bookstall.
The 11 o’clock choir and organist are often available to support the singing at funerals.
