We are part of a national and international organisation with several groups or “Sections” in the Clifton Diocese.
The CWL was founded in 1906 by Margaret Fletcher and during its long history has been involved in much important work – including organising the first Family Fast Day (the precursor of CAFOD), work with refugees and supporting service personnel during both world wars.
There has been an active CWL group in this Parish for 85 years!
In the course of the year we welcome speakers, discuss matters of common concern to Catholic women, have a day retreat, take part in the Women’s World Day of Prayer and cater for one of the Ecumenical Lent Lunches. We usually organise a visit or meal together and meet with other groups in the diocese several times a year.
Meetings usually take place in the Parish Room on the second Wednesday of the month from 1 – 2.30pm and there are occasional evening meetings – but you will find members involved in just about every activity in the Parish as well! Meetings are advertised on the noticeboards and in the Parish newsletter. If you would like to get to know other women socially and be involved in the service of Holy Rood Parish and the wider community, you are very welcome to come to meet us.
