The New Life Choir is a ‘part- time’ choir, formed in 2007, to support the singing at the Easter Vigil – in place of the Holy Rood Folk Group which had faithfully served at this liturgy for many years. Since 2007, this choir has gathered a few times a year to support the Easter Vigil, Lenten and Advent Penitential services, the Confirmation Mass, the Parish Feast and the First Mass of Christmas on Christmas Eve. We sing a variety of material including traditional hymns and modern worship songs. Whilst we have some regular core members, new members are welcome to join each time the group convenes, thus the group has a slightly different membership each time it meets. Rehearsals are usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening, from 7/ 7.30pm, for a period of weeks leading up to the respective liturgy. We nearly always have a refreshment break – and consider this social aspect to be very important. We also like to go out for a meal together once a year. Do come and give us a try – no audition needed, just enthusiasm for singing God’s praises!
The choir is directed by Marguerite Holliday, with Ruth Barrett as deputy. Anne Nolan and Melanie Kidd are our regular pianists and Ruth Barrett our regular clarinettist but guest musicians are sometimes required/ always welcome! Do let us know if you would like to be involved.
